WELL, WELL, WELL, I finally watched The Greatest Love, after reading the recaps weekly as it aired, I took some time to get back to it. This one is another light rom-com, but more then that this one has epic humor in it. And it has all the ingredients of a very funny, delightful comedy/romance drama. Those ingredients include good story, good directing, good actors who are not shy to embarrass themselves on screen.
The drama is a recent one, ending in July 2011, and it was 16 episodes long. The story revolved around a former idol star, who had fallen to the lowest pits of the entertainment industry, greatly misunderstood and blamed for the disbandment of her idol band, Goo Ae Jung (Gong Hyo Jin), is a former star striving to survive in the hard and brutal entertainment industry of Korea. While at the same time there is an idol top star Dokko Jin (Cha Seung Won), the man is loved by the whole of Korea. And through a series of incidents as well as the same management company, the top star falls in love with the D grade star, and finally convinces her as well. In this mix is a doctor of Oriental Medicine Yoon Pil Joon (Yoon Kye Sang), who falls in love with our female lead and tries in his sweet manner to take her away from the world of entertainment industry, which has always given her pain. And then their is famous MC Kang Se Ri (Yoo In Ha), who is also an ex member of Ae Jung's idol band, as well as being Dokko Jin's ex girlfriend and who develops a crush on the shy doctor.
And unlike other Korean dramas, the Hong sisters as always managed to make this a light drama, though their was a life endangering illness in the midst but it was just so perfect that it was not irritating like all other angst filled dramas. I've been a huge fan of Hyo Jin since I saw her in Biscuit Teacher And Star Candy, and her performance did not disappoint. It was my first time watching Cha Seung Won's performance and he can definitely act, in most scenes that is. Yoon Kye Sang surprised me, as I was seeing him for the first time since his performance in She Is Nineteen and man was I impressed. The guy learned to act really well, and now I'm a fan. The other side characters were alright as well, and helped to carry the story forward though in some cases their were some overacted scenes. The Soundtrack was really good, and I loved it, so much so that I listened to it often even now.
Overall the drama was pleasing, as it was a light rom-com, it did its job perfectly.
