I Will Never Be Convinced

Humanity is the most important thing. Nothing, in my book, is more important and anything can be forgiven, but not crimes against humanity.
The fact is that I have come across many supporters of General Pervez Musharraf, and had many discussions about the Lal Masjid incident. That incident has been my biggest point against the ex President of Pakistan. Yet, on many occasions the supporters of the General who ruled over Pakistan for more them eight years, have given great arguments in favour of his actions in Lal Masjid. The points given by the people who think he was good for the country, are very convincing, so much so that on many occasions I have found myself almost convinced. But that almost remains an almost.
The reason that I have always managed to condemn his actions on that day, is that whenever I found myself swayed, I remembered that after the action had ended, I saw the hand of a little boy floating in the stream nearby. That image, my friends, I cannot forget, for at that moment I felt the pain that child must have felt. And I know that I cannot forget the fact that there was a child, who was brutally killed, similarly I cannot forget the fact that there were countless other children, along with a little boy, whose picture I saw among the people being mourned, and that very same child had once returned my purse to me in the Aabpara market. I cannot forget the fact that a very trusted source told me that they hardly had any weapons in the mosque and that all they had was a sniper. And the fact that the media was allowed in, hours after the operation had ended.
With all these facts, staring me in the face, how can I be convinced that there was no other way. So is it alright to kill harmless little children, because you cannot wait around and negotiate and compromise on your stance? Is it alright to bombard an area, just because the adults there are not allowing the children to come out?
I am sorry, but no matter how much the situation was bad, it gave no one any right to go and kill those people and children right in their own country, by their own military. Is not ones country supposed to be the safest place for them? Then how can the people of this country not only forgive that General, but support him?
