The Great Escape

I am fiction buff, that is a fact that I cannot deny. I love watching fictional stories unfold in movies, t.v shows and even books. To me fiction is like a best friend. A good fiction can make any day better, make anything hurt less, can make a happy moment double happy and so on. But more than all this, fiction can change your perspective. Most fiction, no matter how fantastic, comes from experience. It is some human's imagination, and no human imagination can filter out experiences.

The most interesting thing is that fiction is the best way to express a perspective that might not be welcomed. Like a mean girl just might be very insecure, a very popular guy might be a geek, a playboy might have some childhood issues, society easily judges those it can not understand, people are ostracised for being different.

Even in the fantastical worlds created in fiction have glimpses of experiences like a hero might not want to be one, people who are awed for being different might not want it. A world created might be totally new, but the problems remain the same, like in J. R. R Tolkien's Middle earth the problems of identity, borders and races was as real as in the real world. In Christopher Paolini's Alagaesia the problems were different but the politics closely reminded one of the world where our reality resides

Venturing into a fictional world almost always provides with better insights into our own world. On top of that if we get a good story, good characters that become endearing to us, then it is icing on the cake.

There is never a better way to get through tough times then to read or watch a fictional story unfold. Personally I realised this in 2002, while feeling really bad I turned for support to Harry Potter and The Goblet Of Fire, it made me laugh, made me realise that forgiveness was all about growing up, and friendship didn't require an apology to make things better and all the while it intrigued me to read on for the 50th time.

This tirade comes after I realised that fiction is indeed my saviour and I love it. May it be a high school based show, or an investigative one, may the movie be a murder mystery or a comedy and the books might be complete fantasy or maybe a historical but as long as its fiction (and ofcourse well written/produced/directed/acted etc) I'm sold.
