Review: Kdrama Lie To Me

For the last four months or so, I have been addicted to Korean dramas. Well, perhaps not all that time, initially I was addicted to Korean movies but now that addiction has shifted to Korean dramas. Therefore, I have decided to blog about every new drama I watch. But I will not only talk about dramas which are recent, I will talk about anything that i watch, and that might be recent or really old.
The drama that I got done with just now is a drama which has just ended in Korea itself, its called 'Lie To Me'. Before starting it, I read a lot of reviews about it, while some thought it was a mess others loved this light romantic comedy.
The drama stars famous Korean actors Yoon Eun-Hye and Kwan Ji-Hwan as the leads. This was my first time watching actor Kwan Ji-Hwan but I had seen Eun-Hye twice previously, once in Goong, where i found her nice though not a great actress and in my all time favourite Korean Drama 'Coffee Prince', which didn't make me her greatest fan but made me fall head over heels for her character. Kwan Ji-Hwan is a good actor as far as I could make out, though in certain scenes I definitely wished to see more expressions on his face, Eun-Hye on the other hand reminded me more of her Goong days rather then Coffee Prince ones.
The drama as i have said before is a light romantic comedy, with little melodrama and pretty enjoyable. The story is simple Korean typical story, a chaebol and a normal girl, who fall in love. How they go about it is a little different, but not completely so. The one thing I loved about this drama was that the female protagonist was career oriented and was not a complete idiot (which seemingly Korean dramas love in their female leads, making them mostly too naive and innocent), not that the female lead here was not innocent, a world wise lead is impossible for light commercial Korean dramas.
The romance in this drama was light and enjoyable, with a lot of funny moments as well as the usual dose of embarrassing moments, and of course the whole romance was embarrassingly corny. Making one wonder that do such idiots really exist, at the same time we all know that a drama without corniness and embarrassingly chummy moments would not be appreciated by the Korean drama audience, so we sane people live with it.
Overall, the drama was a good watch and thankfully it was not too irritating or too vexing, it was an easy watch, though not the best light romantic comedy Korean drama I've seen, I still have a special place for My Princess (maybe because it was my first Korean Drama, as it had loads of flaws).
So if one has a lot of free time and wants to watch something light, 'Lie To Me' is not a bad choice.
