Review: Kdrama Spring Waltz

When I initially heard of this drama, I thought I would never watch it for the sole reason that it was a part of the 'Endless Love' series. But I'm glad that I decided to finally give it a chance.
Spring Waltz is the final instalment of the series, it was released in 2006 and is the only one of the four dramas to be shot internationally. It stars Seo Do-young (Unstoppable Marriage) and Han Hyo-joo (Shining Inheritance) as the lead characters, while Korean American actor and model Daniel Henney (My Name is Kim Sam Soon) and actress Lee So-yeon (Dong Yi) play the side characters.
Spring Waltz is quite an interesting watch, the first few episodes are really really good, with the introduction of the story and development of the relationships. Later the story is more conventional but still well done. The best part is how the drama starts, as unlike other dramas it starts in the present and tells the story of the past through a flash back. Another thing that one has to write about is the fact the Philip, the side character, played by Henney, is given ample screen time and as one falls in love with the character from the start, its a great thing.
The acting is not the strongest but it is not extremely torturous either, there are instances where one thinks what went wrong but over all the cast carries their characters and story just about fine.
No one who has seen this drama can go without loving the character played by Daniel Henney, the character is for once a man who takes his loss with dignity and once in a Korean drama a side character has a story too. Many people have claimed to have wished 'Philip' to get the girl at the end, which would not have been completely bad if the whole story had been told differently:). But I've got to admit that after "My Girl", this is the first drama where I have supported the second lead probably more then the hero. I also think this is Daniel Henney's best work, even though he is not the lead one loves him as much or maybe more then the leads. This  was not something he was able to achieve in his Korean movie "Seducing Mr. Perfect".
The story is very unrealistic if not completely, but nevertheless it is fun and unlike other "Endless Love" dramas, it does not drag or become boring, the music is very beautiful, almost unforgettable and the scenery, of course of Austria and Korea is simple heart wrenching. The story is not full of angst but its not a light watch at all, as it is completely melodramatic. So for those who like something with a little sense of reality in it, this is a bad idea but for those who do not mind a dramatic drama full of emotional conflict and for the soft hearted who want a tear jerker this is perfect.
