Every list of recommended Korean dramas that I read had one drama in common, but somehow its summary never really attracted me. So initially I did not give this drama a chance but then I found out that I had watched all the dramas that had caught my attention, and thus I convinced myself to watch this drama known as Dal Ja's Spring.
And I finally understood why everyone kept on recommending it, it is not my most favourite drama but it is definitely something I enjoyed, liked and felt good watching (for me that is the most important thing). It was not perfect but it was different. See this was not the first time I had seen Chae Rim, the lead actress of this drama, and funnily the previous drama I had watched of hers was Oh My Lady, that too had her pairing up with a younger men, thus I was not expecting much different. But here the most important thing that caught my attention was that the drama did try to be mature and in many ways succeeded in being so. The role of the lead man was played by Lee Min Ki, who I was seeing for the first time and the thing is he can act but there were times when he made me want to scream and shout and punch at my computer screen for his lack of expressions. And i am not talking about his not being able to express himself part, there were parts before that that made me feel so frustrated it was painful. Chae Rim was good, but now I think I want to see a more serious role of hers, though no one can doubt that she can act.
The second guy in the drama was played by Lee Hyun Wu, and I had seen him before with Chae Rim in Oh My Lady and in his earlier drama Attic Cat, all I can say is I would love to see this guy for once get the girl he likes, it would be so nice a change. Then there was Lee Hye Young, who had already impressed me in Save The Last Dance For Me, but lets just say her character was written to bowl over girls like me. While Gong Hyun Jin, was a nice discovery for me, though I'm not so sure of him as a serious actor, and I think his acting can be a lot better, but I will still give him a chance as I have not seen any other work of his. Another actress I'll like to mention is an actress whose name I do not know, and initially I didn't think much of her acting, until the time her story was explored a little, her character was called Soon Ae (unnie).
Overall I think they were able to make a same old romantic comedy drama, and yet make it interestingly different, for me the best part was her career and so on, but the truth is the drama was unrealistic, in the manner that Dal Ja's character is too naive and innocent, not for her age but for any person living out in the world, for sometimes she did not come across as someone who was oblivious to the dating world but oblivious about humans and their reactions.
Yet the fact that this drama was able to handle it all; being different; being a romantic comedy; being mature; being hilariously funny; being modern yet being conservative and so on, that very fact makes this drama special.
