Review: Kdrama Smile Again

Smile Again....yes he looked his best as the high
school kid:D
This drama was in no recommended lists, I came across it while checking a site for different available dramas. So I did not know much about it when I started it, it aired in 2006 and that is all I knew. But the story was interesting or it seemed so while reading the review.
Basically the story is about a girl whose an athlete and in high school plays on the boys baseball team, and this guy who is an orphan and he tries to lean on people to fulfill his dreams and plays with her feelings for some money, but in the process is deeply touched by her. The day he breaks her heart and thoroughly embarrasses her, he has to run away and never gets a chance to apologise. Later we are shown him living a life full of petty crimes along with a girl completely dependent on him. But fate has it so that he meets the girl again and that is where the story of his change begins.
The four main characters
The actors, especially the lead actor was Lee Dong-Geon, who, though it was not easy for me to recognise, was in the first ever Korean movie I had seen My Boyfriend Is Type B, and I had thought what an awful actor. Well here he changed my view about that, for his acting was actually really good. His leading lady was Kim Hee-Seon, who I saw for the first time and thought that she was pretty good. The supporting cast was not bad too, but the character of Choi Yu-Kang played by Yoon Se-Ah, managed to make me pity her and understand her even at her worst, but sadly whenever she started talking, that soft voice, with that pitiful expressions irritated the crap out of me. her speaking style was like a dagger to my ears every time. And even when I did not hate her character, I wanted to smack her for opening her mouth, hell I used to dread her dialogues and hold my hand so as to not forward the scenes where she had to speak. But I never said that she was a bad actress.:P
the chemistry was actually a huge support
The story was different in many ways, as at the start one loves her sporting spirit and the first few episodes makes one want to beat up the hero. How many dramas can give one the feeling of change in a character that well. And realistically one never has to see him feel guilty about anything other than when it comes to the woman he loves Oh Dan-Hee. Though the drama loses its realism half way through and leaves one's mind boggled in between. But for the fact that they came up with something other than a rich guy in love with a poor girl concept for the lead pair. And for once a girl in a Korean drama has a dream other than finding a boy and getting married, she actually is more independent that the hero and that is indeed what gives this drama my love.....I will respect it until I find a more realistic drama which is different then the cliched stuff that most Korean dramas show.
